In this week's episode Dominic Littlewood has two traders in his sights: a builder who left a single mother's home completely uninhabitable, and a drainage company whose work is tantamount to daylight robbery. After recently separating from her partner, Emily Harrold and her three year old son Art wanted a 'fixer-upper' that she could put her stamp on, and make into a home for the future. She found a builder she thought she could trust, who quoted her £24,000 for the complete job. But things didn't turn out as Emily expected... After paying out £15,000, things turned sour and her builder walked off site, taking £6,000 of materials and goods with him. The quality of work he lefty behind was appalling, with lethal electrics, unsecured brickwork, incorrectly installed plumbing, and amateurish foundations. Emily and Art were left living at her Mum's, with little hope of getting the build finished and making the house habitable again. Designer Pippa and builder Chris have a huge task on their hands: in three weeks they have to transform a whole house, inside and out - including adding a new extension. Meanwhile Dom has a rather different battle ahead, as he comes face to face with the builder responsible – who comes out with all guns blazing. Dom is also tackling a drainage company who've left a string of unhappy customers in their wake. When the company are called out to our hidden camera house - to carry out a simple drainage job - there's a sting in the tail as both Dom and the boss of the company get more than they bargained for...
If a builder says they will deal with the local council on your behalf with issues like planning and building control, it's always worth checking with the council yourself to make sure. If it turns out the builder hasn't been keeping the planners and the building inspector in the loop you could be liable for the consequences.
